Getting a professional teeth cleaning is a crucial component of overall preventive care. It prevents new cavities and incidents of gum disease, as well as reversing existing signs of early stage gum disease. For something so simple, and so painless, it’s almost remarkable that is has such a positive effect. It’s absolutely true, though. And that’s why we at Everson Dental Clinic urge you to take advantage of the good they make possible.
Our Everson teeth cleaning should be done two times per year, roughly six months apart. The first goal of doing so is to eradicate tartar buildup. Tartar is simply another form of dental plaque, except that instead of it being filmy, it’s hard and crusty. And that’s what makes it virtually impossible to remove with at-home measures. Your toothbrush and dental floss eliminate plaque, but not tartar. And if it were allowed to remain, the likelihood is that you would be more prone to dental decay and the cavities that are the inevitable outcome of it. That’s just one of the consequences. The other is gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease, in which irritation and redness tend to occur. Speaking of which, our Everson teeth cleaning reverses those signs. And that is important because otherwise gum disease continues to progress, leading at some point to inflammation, infection, receding gums, persistent bad breath, loss of gum and bone tissue, and loose teeth. So when combined with your own daily brushing and flossing, just come in twice-yearly for a complete oral examination and cleaning. It doesn’t mean that you’ll never have a cavity or gum disease, but it certainly improves your chances of experiencing a high level of oral wellness now and in the future.
